Accommodation & Amenities

We offer modern, comfortable, centrally-heated accommodation in the historic setting of a Georgian mansion house. Additional accommodation is available in the adjacent Courtyard House where self-catering is an option.

The Burn has 18 bedrooms each equipped with tea and coffee making facilities. Each bedroom has a sink, and bathrooms are adjacent or near to each bedroom, as the house retains its post-Edwardian design of the 1930s. Bath sheets are provided for every guest in the rooms, hand towels as well as hand soap are provided in the bathrooms.

Most bedrooms are twin but some of the larger rooms have 3 or 4 beds. These larger rooms are ideal for families with young children and further beds, in the form of Z-beds, can be added.

A further 6 twin/double bedrooms can be made available within the adjoining Courtyard House but only if the house has not been let as a complete unit.

Holiday Let Accommodation

We can offer 2 holiday units on a self-catering basis. Courtyard House is a 6 bedroom property with 3 bathrooms, 2 lounges, a dining room and a kitchen. It is fully equipped to be a holiday-let for 12 people. In addition, The North Lodge, within The Burn estate, offers accommodation for 4 people in 2 twin rooms, however additional Z-bed can be added. It is a small lodge with 1 bathroom, a dining room and a kitchen. This facility is very popular with fishermen or small parties.

Meeting Facilities

Our main conference venue is an attractive and characterful 18th century Drawing Room. This room can accommodate up to 80 people if configured for a conference and is the preferred location for marriage ceremonies. The Library and Small Dining Room can comfortably accommodate up to 20 and these areas work well as break-out and syndicate spaces.

Two digital projectors and screens are available along with flip-charts, white-boards, an OHP and DVD/VHS players. Wi-Fi is enabled in the main public rooms.

Games Room

The games room is fully equipped with a full-sized snooker table, table tennis, a dartboard and other indoor games. A TV is also available for guests in both the main mansion house and Courtyard House.

Fishing and Outdoor Sports

Fishing permits are available for use on the North Esk river. The game fishing season runs from middle of February to the end of October and the cost of the permit reduces in the summer and increases again when autumn approaches and the salmon run. To find out more about fishing at The Burn please see our FishPal page.

A range of outdoor games can be played in The Burn garden and guests can play tennis on our hard-court, as well as putting, croquet and bowls on the lawns. There are also nets for football and a labyrinth to explore. However, walking remains the main outdoor pasttime for guests at The Burn.

The Edzell Golf Course is less than five minutes away by car. There are special discount rates for guests at The Burn. There are also numerous golf courses within easy reach. You can drive to the championship courses at St Andrew's and Carnoustie within an hour.

Food and Drink

Our 2 experienced chefs use mostly local ingredients to produce delicious and wholesome meals for our guests. We are often asked to prepare and cook North Esk salmon and depending on the growing season, we do try to add some home grown produce to our menu.

Meals are plentiful and tasty and we can cater for special dietary needs on request.

We can also offer a wide range of catering options from BBQs and curry lunches to champagne receptions and themed dinner nights. We pride ourselves in providing a full breakfast meal and delicious scones and cakes with afternoon tea.
